Elliot Anderson will make his Manchester derby bow at Old Trafford this afternoon, named in Enzo Maresca's starting line-up for the 199th meeting between the two clubs.
City arrive at the home of their neighbours seeking a fifth win from five in all competitions, having already dispatched Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and Coventry City in the league before Tuesday's 2-0 Champions League success against FC Porto.
That European night carried its own slice of history. Erling Haaland's goal took him to 167 for the club, making him City's third-highest scorer of all time.
Selection News
Anderson's inclusion comes after he joined from Nottingham Forest in June, and he lines up alongside Fernandez in the centre of midfield.
Nico O'Reilly is back among the substitutes after the back problem that ruled him out of the starting XI against Coventry City, with Maresca confirming the England international is "100 percent" ready.
Jeremy Doku, though, remains sidelined. The calf injury he picked up in August's 3-0 Community Shield defeat to Arsenal has kept him out of every competitive fixture this season, and Maresca said on Friday that the Belgian needs "some more days" before he can be considered.
Antoine Semenyo continues in his absence, the Ghana international having struck up a productive understanding with Haaland in the opening weeks of the campaign.
Marc Guehi and Ruben Dias keep their places at centre-back after back-to-back clean sheets, and they will be tested by what Maresca has called the most direct attack in the Premier League, with United playing more balls in behind than any other side this season.
There is a cautionary note from last season, when City were beaten 2-0 in this fixture. Michael Carrick takes charge of United for the first time following the sacking of Ruben Amorim.
Michael Oliver will officiate. City have lost just twice in their last 10 Premier League games under him.
Kick-off at Old Trafford is at 16:30 UK.
