Manchester City have made contact with the representatives of Bayer Leverkusen's Ibrahim Maza, according to reports in Germany.
The 20-year-old attacking midfielder is attracting attention across Europe, and Fussball-news-de claim City and Atletico Madrid have both asked his agent to keep them informed if he decides to leave the BayArena.
Manchester United and Arsenal are also monitoring the situation.
Where would Maza fit?
The German-born Algeria international is most comfortable as a number ten. That's the position where Enzo Maresca already has Phil Foden and Rayan Cherki.
Maza can play wide, but the middle is his natural home. And that's where City are already well stocked.
Sources in Germany suggest Leverkusen want between €65m (£56m) and €70m (£60m) for a player they signed from Hertha Berlin for €12m. He has made 48 appearances since that move, scoring six goals and providing nine assists.
Leverkusen have no plans to let one of European football's brightest prospects leave cheaply.
City have already spent big this summer on Enzo Fernandez, Elliot Anderson and Ayyoub Bouaddi. Another sizeable outlay on a number ten would only make sense if the club believe Maza is an upgrade on what they already have.
That's the question Maresca and his recruitment team will be weighing up. The interest is real. The logic is less obvious.
