Bayern's Interest in Cherki Hits a Winter Wall
Bayern Munich have been linked with Rayan Cherki, but any move will have to wait. Christian Falk has said he asked Max Eberl about the Bundesliga club's interest in the Manchester City playmaker, and the response was emphatic: there is no plan to bring Cherki in during the winter window.
That will come as little surprise to anyone who has watched Bayern operate. As Falk noted, the German giants don't tend to do big deals like Cherki, who would be really expensive in January, unless something disastrous has happened — like a serious injury.
Why Bayern Are Reluctant to Spend Big
Bayern's reluctance to splash out mid-season is understandable given the talent already at their disposal. Jamal Musiala and Michael Olise are two of the most talented players in world football, and both have become superstars in the Bundesliga and key figures on the international stage. With that kind of quality in the squad, there is no urgent need to spend big on another attacker.
For City, the interest from Bayern is a compliment to Cherki's rapid development. The 23-year-old signed for £34million in the summer of 2025 and has already contributed 13 goals and 19 assists in his first 62 appearances for the club. Those numbers have inevitably drawn attention from Europe's elite.
The Only Reason City Should Consider a Sale
So when should City even entertain the idea of selling? Only if Bayern make an offer that is simply too good to refuse. Given their reluctance to do big deals in January, that seems unlikely. And with Cherki's form and potential, City have little reason to cash in now.
After all, the club has been here before. Kevin de Bruyne joined in the summer of 2015 and went on to become a legend. Cherki is doing his best to match that trajectory. Selling him now would be premature.
For the time being, Bayern's interest is just that — interest. No bid, no plan, no winter move. City fans can rest easy. Unless Bayern suddenly change their approach, Cherki stays where he belongs.
