Midfield rebuild takes shape
Manchester City have agreed personal terms with Ayyoub Bouaddi and are now in advanced talks with Lille over a transfer worth around £86m. The 18-year-old Morocco international is regarded as one of the most exciting talents in Europe's big five leagues, and his arrival would signal a major statement of intent from the new regime at the Etihad.
According to talkSPORT, the Bouaddi deal could be closely linked with Rodri's future. A move for the teenager might pave the way for Rodri to leave City for Real Madrid, a scenario that would bring an end to a remarkable chapter in the club's modern history.
Rodri has played 298 games for City, winning multiple major honours including the treble in 2022/23. This summer he added a World Cup winners' medal with Spain to his collection. Losing a player of that calibre would hurt any side, but City appear to be planning for life without their midfield anchor.
What comes next for Bouaddi?
It still needs to be determined whether Bouaddi will move to the Etihad Stadium straight away or spend one more season in Ligue 1. That decision could shape City's entire summer transfer strategy, particularly if Rodri's exit is confirmed before the window closes.
City also have new signing Elliot Anderson in midfield, so there is no shortage of options even if Rodri departs. But the scale of change at the club goes far beyond one position.
