Confidence rising in Madrid
Real Madrid are increasingly optimistic about prising Rodri away from the Etihad this summer, with direct talks between the two clubs now stretching back several weeks. A key condition around a potential replacement is emerging as the main obstacle to any transfer.
Earlier in the summer, Madrid sources publicly insisted they had no intention of signing the Ballon d'Or holder. Those denials have since softened. The Spanish giants have now confirmed a deal for RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande at a reported €135 million, yet midfield remains a priority.
According to ESPN journalists Rodra and Alex Kirkland, one Madrid source believes City would want to sign a replacement before letting Rodri leave. That need to find a like-for-like successor is complicating any potential sale.
PSG recently contacted City directly about Rodri's availability, while Barcelona have also stated their interest in the midfielder. The presence of multiple suitors is adding further complexity to an already layered situation.
