Khusanov and Doku set to join Foden in signing long-term City deals until 2031

Contract merry-go-round continues at the Etihad

Phil Foden's new deal was only announced on Wednesday afternoon, but the club's contract team are clearly not taking a breather. Two more first-team players are expected to follow the England international in committing their long-term futures to Manchester City.

According to The Athletic's Sam Lee, both Abdukodir Khusanov and Jeremy Doku are set to agree terms on new contracts that run until the summer of 2031. Foden's own deal is until 2030 with an option for an extra year, putting all three on broadly the same timeline.

Confirmation of Khusanov's extension is expected shortly. The Uzbekistan international arrived at the club less than a year ago but has clearly done enough to earn a significant commitment from the hierarchy.

Doku's announcement will follow later. The Belgian winger instructed his advisors to handle the paperwork while he was away at the World Cup with Belgium, with no intention of looking elsewhere. That suggests a player happy with his lot at the Etihad, which is always a decent sign.

Josko Gvardiol is expected to be the next player to formally sign on to a new contract at the Etihad Stadium, despite weighing up his options concerning his future earlier this summer.

The Croatian defender is expected to commit until 2031, despite reported interest from Bayern Munich and clubs in Spain. That would represent a significant shift from the uncertainty that surrounded his future just a few weeks ago.

The Rodri question lingers

All of which leaves the biggest piece of business still unresolved. Rodri, the World Cup-winning captain, is seemingly hesitant to sign City's contractual proposal — a deal that would make him one of the club's leading earners. Real Madrid are monitoring the situation closely, and given the midfielder's public desire to return to Spain at some stage, this one could run deep into the summer.

For now, though, the focus is on those who are ready to sign. Khusanov and Doku look set to be the next names on the dotted line. Gvardiol won't be far behind.
