Confident start on the road
Two goals from Erling Haaland gave Manchester City a 2-0 win over Porto in Portugal, a result that will do no harm to morale as the club adjusts to life after Pep Guardiola. It was City's opening Champions League fixture under Enzo Maresca, and the new manager will have liked much of what he saw.
Haaland opened his account early in the second half before sealing his brace in the 91st minute. The Norwegian's double was enough to see off Porto on their own patch, and the clean sheet will be just as welcome.

How the night unfolded elsewhere
Across the continent, Real Madrid also began their European campaign with a win, edging Inter Milan 2-1 at home. Jose Mourinho's side were looking to bounce back from a disappointing 1-0 La Liga loss to Real Betis, and they made a fast start. Kylian Mbappe put them ahead on 14 minutes, and Federico Valverde doubled the lead in the 23rd minute after a blunder from Josef Martinez in the Inter goal.
It was far from comfortable for the hosts, with the Nerazzurri pushing hard throughout. Carlos Augusto pulled one back on 77 minutes, but Mourinho's men held on to their slender lead until the final whistle.
Elsewhere on Tuesday, Aston Villa won 3-2 at Club Brugge, Dortmund beat Villarreal 3-2, and Betis followed up their league win over Madrid with a 3-2 success at LOSC. AEK beat LASK 1-0.
For City, the task now is to build on this. A winning start in Europe, a clean sheet, and Haaland already off the mark — not a bad way to begin a new chapter.
