Defender commits long-term future
Josko Gvardiol has put pen to paper on a new contract at Manchester City that keeps him at the club until the summer of 2031. The deal represents a three-year extension on terms that were due to expire in 2028, and includes what has been described as a significant salary increase.
The Croatian was spotted with his agent Marjan Sisic ahead of their arrival in Manchester on Monday. Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg reported the agreement, with a formal announcement expected soon.
Part of a wider reshuffle
Gvardiol's new deal follows Phil Foden's own four-year extension and Abdukodir Khusanov's contract running through to 2031. It arrives with Enzo Maresca beginning his tenure as head coach and Hugo Viana installed as director of football.
The timing is notable given that John Stones and Nathan Ake have both left the club this summer. Gvardiol, comfortable at left-back and centre-back, offers cover across the back line as Maresca shapes his squad ahead of the 23rd August league start.
City's first pre-season friendly is against Inter Milan on 1st August.
