A first red card for Phil Foden

Foden went down near the edge of the line close to City's box under a challenge from Bruno Fernandes. As the pair tussled for possession, Foden's legs went up and he appeared to run the ball into Fernandes' abdomen.
Replays showed the contact was soft rather than malicious. That did not stop Oliver from sending Foden off.

Foden is only the second City player this century to be sent off in a Premier League Manchester derby. The first was Bernardo Corradi back in 2006, who was shown a second yellow for diving in the 90th minute after a handball booking at the hour mark. Corradi's dismissal came in a 3-1 defeat to United.

The last player to see red at Old Trafford before Foden was Chris Smalling, who went off after two quick bookings in the first half.
For a player whose disciplinary record has been remarkably clean, this was a strange afternoon. The straight red means Foden now faces a three-game suspension for City.
