Foden to Miss Anfield Clash as Doku Returns
Phil Foden remains Manchester City's only confirmed senior absentee as the squad disperses for the international break. The midfielder is suspended for the trip to Liverpool on 11 October, the final instalment of a three-match ban.
Foden's suspension stems from his red card in the Manchester derby on 13 September. City won that game 1-0 at Old Trafford, but the dismissal carried a domestic three-match penalty. He sat out the 5-0 Carabao Cup rout of Norwich City and the weekend victory over Sunderland. Enzo Maresca confirmed before the Norwich tie that the Anfield fixture would complete the ban.
Jeremy Doku, meanwhile, has played his way off the treatment table. The winger returned as a second-half substitute against Sunderland, replacing Iliman Ndiaye after 75 minutes. It was his first outing since the opening weekend of the season, a knock in the Community Shield defeat to Arsenal having kept him out of five matches.
Doku's comeback leaves City, on the manager's latest team news, without any confirmed senior injury concerns heading into the break. The fortnight offers him a chance to sharpen up before domestic duties resume.
Foden, though, will watch from the sidelines at Anfield. He becomes available again for selection after that fixture.
