Alleyne heads to Turf Moor for season-long loan as City retain control
Max Alleyne's path to regular senior football will take him to the Championship this season. Burnley have agreed a deal with City to take the 21-year-old defender on loan until June 2027.
There is no option or obligation for the Clarets to make the move permanent. That is the detail that matters most at the City end. When the campaign concludes, Alleyne returns to the Etihad with the club's options fully open.
Alleyne is due to undergo his medical before the switch is officially confirmed.
He joined City's academy from Southampton in 2021 and has since caught the eye under Pep Guardiola in domestic cup ties and pre-season games. A defender who is comfortable using either foot and capable of stepping into defensive midfield, his calmness in possession lends itself to most tactical setups.
Senior chances have been scarce, with plenty of defensive cover ahead of him in Maresca's squad. A year of competitive football in the Championship should offer exactly the kind of minutes and experience that under-21 football cannot replicate.
By the time he returns in 2027, Alleyne will be expected to push for a permanent place in the City squad. The loan is a step towards that, not a farewell.
