Xavier Parker's rise through City's academy has earned him a place on The Guardian's Next Generation 2026 list, which recognises one emerging talent from each of the 20 Premier League clubs.
The 16-year-old midfielder is London-born and joined City from West Ham in 2024. Last season he established himself in the Under-18 side, contributing six goals and seven assists from 21 appearances according to the club's own records. The academy won the Under-18 Premier League North title and the FA Youth Cup during that campaign.
His form earned him a spot on Enzo Maresca's first-team tour of Asia in the summer, where he was the youngest member of the travelling squad. City describe Parker as an attack-minded midfielder capable of operating as a number eight or 10, and he has also been used further forward.
Parker announced himself in the EFL Trophy in August, scoring twice in a 4-1 victory over Mansfield Town. Both goals came inside five first-half minutes on his debut in the competition. He also found the net in City's opening Premier League 2 win over Wolves.
The recognition from The Guardian follows a steady climb through the youth ranks since his move from West Ham. For a club with City's resources, producing homegrown talent remains a point of pride, and Parker's inclusion on the list puts him alongside the country's most promising young players.
