Manchester City will be without Antoine Semenyo for eight weeks after the winger picked up a knee injury in last Saturday's 3-2 win over Ipswich Town at the Etihad Stadium.
The Ghana international's absence leaves Enzo Maresca short of options in wide areas, and the spotlight now falls on Brazilian winger Allan, who has made just two appearances for City this season.
Allan's chance to stake a claim
Allan arrived from Palmeiras in the summer and has been given time to adapt to life in a new country and at a new club. His most eye-catching contribution so far came in the Carabao Cup third round, where he started against Norwich City and grabbed a goal and an assist in a 5-0 win.
That performance offered a glimpse of a direct winger who thrives in one-on-one situations. What it did not show, however, is a player capable of matching Semenyo's power or his eye for goal. Allan is a different proposition — less physically imposing, less prolific — and Maresca will need to adjust his approach accordingly.
Eight weeks is a long time in a season. For Allan, it is an opportunity.
