Transfer guru says striker staying put for now
Fabrizio Romano has poured cold water on suggestions Erling Haaland could be on his way to Real Madrid this summer, despite fresh comments from the striker's father.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano was unequivocal about Haaland's immediate future at Manchester City.
“I am telling you Haaland to Real Madrid this summer – no.”
But the transfer specialist did leave the door open for a move further down the line, acknowledging that Haaland himself has not ruled out a switch to the Bernabeu at some point.
“But Haaland to Real Madrid one day, who knows? Because Haaland is not excluding the possibility one day, again, not in December 2026 to go to Real Madrid.”
The striker is under contract at the Etihad until 2034 and remains a key figure in the club's plans under new manager Enzo Maresca. Romano stressed that relations between player and club are strong.
“Again, Haaland is very happy at Man City. He’s a crucial player for City project, for City new coach Enzo Maresca, so the feeling is absolutely super positive between Haaland and City.”
Madrid, now managed by Jose Mourinho, have long viewed Haaland as a dream signing to bolster an attack already featuring Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior.
The speculation was reignited on Sunday when Haaland's father, Alf-Inge, told DAZN ES that while his son is happy at City, "anyone would want to play for Madrid." The 53-year-old added: "You never know what can happen in football."
Those comments came ahead of Norway's World Cup last-16 tie against Brazil, in which Haaland scored both goals in a 2-1 win that set up a quarter-final meeting with England.
For now, though, City fans can breathe easy. Haaland isn't going anywhere this summer, even if the Spanish giants might come calling further down the line.
