Transfer Talk Swirls Around Cherki, But City Hold the Cards

Rayan Cherki is not for sale. That is the starting point for any conversation about the Manchester City playmaker, who continues to attract admiring glances from some of Europe's heavyweight clubs.

Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are keeping tabs on the 23-year-old, according to reports. PSG are understood to be monitoring him closely and would be ready to make a move if he became available at a price they deem workable — whether in January or next summer. Liverpool, for their part, are credited with an interest. Chelsea and Real Madrid have previously been linked with the attacking midfielder, though neither has followed up with anything concrete.

The noise is unsurprising. Since arriving from Lyon in 2025 for €42.5m, Cherki has developed into a key figure at the Etihad. His first season produced 25 goal contributions, and he has already registered six from eight appearances this term. That kind of output draws attention, and City are well aware of it.

What they are not doing, however, is entertaining offers. Cherki's contract runs until 2030, leaving the club in a position of strength. There is no indication from within the Etihad that they intend to sell, and no bid or formal approach from Liverpool or PSG has been reported.

That is not to say the situation is entirely without background noise. Uncertainty continues to linger around the club as they await a sanction relating to their Premier League case — though none has yet been announced. Rival clubs may be watching that space, wondering if opportunity knocks. For now, it does not.

Cherki remains a City player on a long-term deal, and the message from the club is clear: he is not on the market.
