New Boy Monga Explains Why He Picked the Blues
Jeremy Monga has revealed that joining Manchester City was an easy decision, even though Arsenal came close to landing the teenager.
The 17-year-old, who impressed at Leicester City before his move, admitted that the Gunners' interest was strong. Speaking to BBC Sport, he said: "It [Arsenal interest] was very strong because it was very close to me going there, very close."
But in the end, the pathway and the club's success swayed him. "The main decision was probably the pathway and the club itself," Monga explained. "They've been so successful that it was a no-brainer when City call."
For a player with ambitions of lifting trophies, the choice was clear. "It's every child's dream to win trophies and be at the top with the best," he added.
Monga has already shown flashes of his ability in pre-season, and he is eager to make an impact. "Once I get the opportunity I just need to show myself, and once I do that, everything will take care of itself," he said.
He also made it clear where his future lies. "I feel like, to me personally, I see myself at City more. I see myself in blue."
The England youth international may need to be patient under Enzo Maresca, but the early signs are promising.
