Six matches, six wins. Enzo Maresca has made quite the first impression at Manchester City, and the new manager is quick to share the credit.
City have won all four of their Premier League fixtures and added a 5-0 Carabao Cup thrashing of Norwich on Thursday night. That makes it six competitive victories out of six since Maresca took over from Pep Guardiola, who departed after a decade in charge.
The sheer scale of the summer rebuild made such a start far from guaranteed. Rodri, Bernardo Silva, John Stones and Nathan Ake were among the senior players to move on, leaving Maresca to reshape a squad that had grown accustomed to Guardiola's methods.
"The players have quickly understood what I want," Maresca said, praising their adaptability. Given the turnover in personnel, that understanding has been central to City's early momentum.
Maresca is no stranger to the Etihad, having previously worked under Guardiola as part of the coaching staff. That familiarity may have eased the transition, but the results on the pitch have done the real talking.
Next up is Sunday's meeting with Sunderland, where City will look to extend their perfect start.
