Manchester City have completed the signing of Sunderland striker Liam Ogunsuyi, according to reports, though the move has yet to be officially announced by the club.
Ogunsuyi, who is just 14 years old, has already made an appearance for his new side — and it came against his former club. The young forward scored twice in a 5-1 victory over the Black Cats earlier this week.
The Sunderland Echo reports that Sunderland are still due compensation from the transfer because of Ogunsuyi's age, and the same outlet describes him as highly rated and one of the brightest prospects in the Black Cats academy.
His credentials support that billing. He won Sunderland's academy Player of the Season award in 2024/25, and became the club's youngest-ever player to turn out for the Under-18s at 13 years of age. He also featured in a 1-0 defeat to Newcastle back in March.
Liam is the younger brother of Trey Ogunsuyi, a striker who plays for Sunderland's Under 21s. That family connection adds a neat subplot to a deal that otherwise flies under the radar.
He is not the only youngster to have been snapped up by City. Mishel Ndika has arrived from Arsenal, and the young midfielder took to Instagram to share a photo of himself signing his contract. Jeremy Monga and Pierce Charles have also been secured, with both loaned out to Swansea City and Queens Park Rangers respectively.
At 14, Ogunsuyi is clearly one for the future. But scoring twice against your former club before the paperwork has even been announced? That's one way to make an early impression.
