Manchester City will learn the outcome of their Financial Fair Play case before the 2026/27 season is out, according to football finance expert Kieran Maguire. The club were found guilty of breaching FFP rules, the Premier League confirmed on Tuesday, and City are set to appeal the decision.
The appeal must be submitted by Friday 2nd October, it is believed, with an Independent Commission then set up to deliberate the case. The verdict is likely to take several months, but Maguire thinks the process will be concluded prior to the end of the 2026/27 campaign.
Premier League rivals have pointed to new regulations introduced in June, which state that a verdict should be handed down no later than 12 weeks after the appeal is filed. That timetable would put the conclusion well before the season's end.
Pundits have called for City's expulsion from the Premier League, but a report citing sources close to top-flight teams says that outcome is highly unlikely. An extremely high fine, along with some form of points deduction, is considered the more probable result.
The outcome remains difficult to predict, and City's appeal will be closely watched. For now, the club must prepare their submission by the October deadline.
