Gusto open to City switch

Manchester City's summer squad refresh may include a move for Chelsea full-back Malo Gusto, with the Frenchman reportedly open to a switch to the Etihad.

Foot Mercato claim Gusto has given the green light to a potential move this summer. The 23-year-old is currently away with France at the World Cup, but his club situation has become a talking point since Enzo Maresca took over at City.

The Maresca connection is central here. The pair worked together at Chelsea and are believed to share a strong relationship. With Maresca now shaping his squad for the post-Guardiola era, a reunion makes sense.

Gusto fits the profile City tend to look for. Quick, aggressive, comfortable on the ball and already proven in this league. A modern right-back who can play high, press hard and support attacks would be a useful addition as the squad gets a refresh.

But Chelsea are in a strong position. Gusto has developed into an important player since arriving from Lyon. He's under contract until 2030. Selling to a direct rival would be a big call, and the Blues won't entertain anything unless the offer is extremely attractive.

If Gusto pushes hard for the move, Chelsea may have a problem. Reliable full-backs with that blend of pace and technical quality don't grow on trees. For City, it makes sense. Maresca knows the player, the player knows the league, and the tactical fit looks clear.

For Chelsea, strengthening a rival could come back to bite them. A huge offer might change their thinking, but anything less would feel like a mistake.
