Erling Haaland's left-footed volley set Manchester City on their way to a 3-0 win over Liverpool, but the striker had already spurned a gilt-edged chance six minutes earlier.

Antoine Semenyo played Haaland through on goal, only for his dinked right-foot finish to drift wide. The miss looked costly until Ryan Gravenberch went off three minutes later, and City took the lead three minutes after that.

Jeremy Doku's shot from the left was blocked by Alexis MacAllister, the rebound bouncing across the Liverpool area. Haaland was ready, unleashing a stinging left-footed volley that beat Alisson to give Enzo Maresca's side a 1-0 lead.

Gianluigi Donnarumma was superb in goal, while Ruben Dias led the way as City's captain. Rayan Cherki and Jeremy Doku unlocked Liverpool when they were there to be beaten.

City's official X post on October 11, 2026, read: 'Who else was going to step up at that moment?' It included the text 'Who else? @Erling' and a link.
