After everything he’s done in sky blue, this one stings a little.

Ilkay Gündogan — the man who lifted our first Champions League trophy, the captain who guided Manchester City to a historic Treble — could be on his way out once again.

City brought Gündogan back last summer after a brief spell at Barcelona. It was a homecoming of sorts, and fans welcomed him with open arms. Over the 2024–25 season, the 34-year-old has shown he still has plenty to offer, featuring in 47 matches and triggering a one-year contract extension thanks to his game count.

That extension means Gündogan is officially tied to the club for another year. But according to reporter Ben Jacobs, City are now open to listening to offers for the legendary midfielder — even though he wants to stay.

It’s a surprising shift in stance. With the club aiming to revamp the midfield this summer, potentially bringing in two new players, it seems Pep Guardiola and the board may be ready to part ways with one of their most trusted lieutenants.

There’s no question Gündogan still adds value. His experience, leadership, and ability to control a game in the tightest of moments have made him a vital presence — whether starting or coming off the bench. He remains a figure the dressing room looks up to.

But there's a twist to all this. Gündogan has long spoken of a dream to one day play for Turkish giants Galatasaray. While his heart may still be in Manchester, a serious approach from Galatasaray could test his resolve.

Whatever happens, City fans will forever be grateful. From last-minute title-winning goals to European glory, Ilkay Gündogan’s name is already etched in club history. Whether we see him in sky blue again next season or not, he’ll always be one of us.
