Grealish's honest answer on a potential Man City return
Jack Grealish has admitted he does not know whether he will ever pull on a Manchester City shirt again, after his Deadline Day loan move to Everton was finally confirmed.
The 30-year-old winger had to wait until the final hours of the transfer window to seal his switch to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, with Aston Villa and Sunderland both keen on his services. David Moyes' side eventually won the race, but Grealish's future beyond this season remains shrouded in uncertainty.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Grealish was candid about what lies ahead. "I don't know, honestly. I'll just have to wait and see what happens. I just want to be enjoying myself, and that's the main thing at the moment," he said.
It is a telling admission from a player who, only weeks ago, appeared to be part of Enzo Maresca's plans. Grealish featured against Arsenal in the Community Shield and against Bournemouth, but his omission from the squad to face Crystal Palace made it clear that an announcement was imminent.
Now, barring a change of heart from Maresca, Grealish's City contract will have expired by the time he returns from his loan. The club is in the midst of a transition, with Bernardo Silva, John Stones and Rodri already having passed on the torch, while the futures of Rico Lewis, Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Dias are also uncertain.
Lewis, in particular, has been linked with a departure. Nottingham Forest have long admired the right-back, and given his limited minutes over the last few months, an exit would not come as a surprise. Keith Wyness told Football Insider last month that Lewis would not be sold before the window closed, but his long-term future is still very much up in the air.
For Grealish, the immediate priority is simple. He has played just 24 minutes for Everton so far, coming on as a substitute during the thrilling 2-2 draw against Manchester United on Sunday, 6 September. At 30, with his City contract winding down, he knows his next chapter is being written now.
