Phil Foden had not scored for City in 35 appearances. He now has four goals in two.
The 26-year-old midfielder ended a 10-month wait for a City goal against Ipswich Town on Saturday, then followed it with a hat-trick in Tuesday's 5-1 Champions League win over AEK Athens.
From drought to downpour
Foden's treble against the Greek champions was his fourth for City and his first in the Champions League. It took his career tally in the competition to 23 goals, level with Frank Lampard among English scorers. Only Harry Kane, Wayne Rooney, Raheem Sterling and Paul Scholes sit above him; Scholes is now just one goal away.
He also set up Rayan Cherki's goal on Tuesday, giving him four goals and an assist across the past two games. Three of those goals have come in this season's Champions League, leaving him one behind the competition's leading scorers after Tuesday's matches.
For part of Tuesday's game Foden operated in a false-nine role, and he combined effectively with Rico Lewis, who created two of his goals.
City's next test comes at Aston Villa on Saturday.
