Record Deal Nearly Done

The numbers are eye-watering, even by modern football standards. Elliot Anderson is closing in on a move to Manchester City that will make him the club's second-highest-paid player, behind only Erling Haaland.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, the England international is set to earn £300,000 per week on a five-year contract. The deal, which saw City agree a £116m fee with Nottingham Forest, was confirmed on Thursday night.

Anderson underwent his medical yesterday, and barring any late complications, the transfer should be finalised shortly.

The fee and wages represent a significant outlay, but City moved quickly to secure the 23-year-old ahead of competition from Manchester United and others. Whether that price tag proves value for money will be determined on the pitch, but the club have clearly identified Anderson as a key piece of Enzo Maresca's squad going forward.

More to follow as the deal is officially announced.
