City's winger search leads to Stamford Bridge
Manchester City's summer transfer business has been busy, but the window's final weeks could yet deliver a familiar face. Reports on Tuesday pointed to a formal approach for Portugal international Pedro Neto, and Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed City have made direct contact with the winger's camp.
Romano's update on X was clear: City have opened talks over a possible move, with Neto among their targets should Savinho depart for Tottenham. The deal, Romano stressed, also depends on Chelsea's valuation.
The Blues' stance, for now, is firm. Despite a tenth-place finish in the Premier League last term, Chelsea have held onto most of their key players—Marc Cucurella the only starter to leave so far. Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer have been declared untouchable, and Neto is not on the club's list of players for sale. He remains part of Xabi Alonso's plans.
Yet Romano suggests the situation could shift if an important offer lands. Contacts with Neto's representatives are ongoing, and the player could be open to the move.
Part of City's interest is obvious: Enzo Maresca knows Neto well from their time together at Chelsea and rates him highly. With Savinho's future uncertain, City are looking for a winger, and Neto is considered an ideal opportunity—a player the club values greatly.
There is, however, a twist. Tottenham's first, second, and third priority remains Savinho, and Romano still believes the Brazilian has a very good chance of joining Spurs before the window shuts. If that deal falls through, Neto could become an option for them too.
For now, City have made their move. Whether Chelsea budge is another matter entirely.
