Winger Headed for Monaco After City Move

Manchester City have completed the signing of highly-rated ESTAC Troyes winger Mathys Detourbet, the French club confirmed. The 19-year-old joins for a fee worth around €25 million including bonuses.

Detourbet played a central role in Troyes' promotion back to Ligue 1 last season, scoring three goals and providing six assists in the 2025/26 campaign. His performances attracted interest from Serie A side Roma, who saw an €8 million plus add-ons bid rejected last summer, before City moved to secure the teenager.

The winger won't be heading to the Etihad just yet. An agreement with AS Monaco was reached in mid-May for an initial one-year loan, with an optional additional year. Fresh details from French journalist Fabrice Hawkins have now emerged: if Detourbet plays five matches for Monaco, the loan automatically extends by a second season.

Monaco have a buy option and will receive various bonuses as part of the arrangement. City, however, have protected themselves with matching rights on any potential permanent departure, giving them control over where the winger ends up long-term. Should they want to recall him within the next two years, they'll have to pay Monaco a fee.

The move ensures Detourbet will get European football at Monaco if he can force his way into their attacking plans. The French side have secured a UEFA Europa Conference League qualifier place, offering the teenager a competitive environment to continue his development.
