Manchester City’s summer shopping list is taking shape, and a new centre-forward is not on it.
The club are expected to strengthen in several areas — two midfielders, a right-back and another winger are thought to be priorities. There could also be movement in goal if James Trafford departs as anticipated.
That left some wondering whether City might also need striking cover if Omar Marmoush were to leave. But according to Simon Bajkowski of the Manchester Evening News, that is not the case.
Marmoush staying put
City are not actively seeking a replacement for the Egyptian. The report indicates Marmoush will remain at the club next season unless he requests a transfer and an acceptable offer arrives. For now, he stays.
It was a difficult 2025-26 campaign for Marmoush. An early-season knee injury disrupted his rhythm, and he also missed a month for AFCON duty with Egypt. Across all competitions he made 36 appearances, scoring eight goals and providing three assists. But his role was largely that of Erling Haaland’s understudy rather than a regular starter.
Pep Guardiola rarely deployed the two together. By the end of the season, Jeremy Doku and Antoine Semenyo had become the preferred options out wide. Marmoush can play on the left but was not given the chance there.
That could change under Enzo Maresca. A new manager means a fresh start, and it will be interesting to see whether Marmoush seizes the opportunity. But for now, City’s focus is on other parts of the squad.
