Club not seeking replacement for Egyptian forward

Manchester City have moved to clarify their position on Omar Marmoush, with the club reportedly not actively looking for a replacement for the Egyptian this summer.

Sources in Manchester have sought to address the uncertainty surrounding the 27-year-old, who has been the subject of growing transfer interest across Europe in the early weeks of the window. Tottenham and Aston Villa are among the clubs mentioned.

Marmoush only arrived at the Etihad in January 2025 via a £59 million move from Eintracht Frankfurt. He is currently in the United States at the World Cup, most recently featuring in Egypt's 1-1 group stage draw against Iran at MetLife Stadium.

According to the Manchester Evening News' Simon Bajkowski, City are not in the market for a replacement forward this summer, instead focusing time and effort on other areas of the squad in the transfer market.

The decision allows sporting director Hugo Viana to direct the club's remaining summer budget toward other positions, potentially including long-term midfield prospects like Lille's Ayyoub Bouaddi or a new specialist right-back.

Marmoush's debut campaign at City proved his value, helping secure Champions League qualification during the second half of the 2024/25 season. Game time was harder to come by in his first full season, however, with 36 appearances across competitions averaging 38.7 minutes per outing. He contributed eight goals and three assists.

Incoming manager Enzo Maresca's blueprint is expected to demand high-pressing forwards with explosive movement in behind — traits that originally prompted City to trigger Marmoush's valuation from the Bundesliga.

City have already shown financial intent elsewhere this summer, sealing a club-record £116 million agreement for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson. But maintaining continuity within their forward line appears to be the priority.
