Manchester City are among the clubs keeping tabs on Breno Sales, a 16-year-old defender making waves at Vasco da Gama.
Vasco's U20 Star Attracting European Attention
City, Chelsea and Arsenal have all registered an interest in the teenager, according to reports. Sales is due to turn 17 in November and has already caught the eye of scouts across Europe.
The Brazilian has taken an unusual path to the centre of defence. He began as a striker, dropped back to left-back, and now operates in the middle. Left-footed and composed in possession, his profile explains why clubs abroad are circling.
Sales has spent much of this campaign with Vasco's U20 side, holding his own against older opponents, and helped the team win the Brazilian U20 title this year. He also lifted the U17 Copa do Brasil in 2025.
On the international stage, he has represented Brazil at youth level, lining up at the South American Championship. Next month's FIFA U17 World Cup is expected to provide another showcase.
Vasco have already turned down a €10 million (£8.7 million) offer for Sales, though the identity of the bidding club is unclear. He is under contract until the end of 2028, and the club's improved financial position means they no longer feel pressured to sell their best young players at the first sign of European interest.
City have recent form in beating Arsenal to young talent, having signed Jeremy Monga from Leicester City this summer.
Meanwhile, Enzo Maresca's side return to Premier League action against Liverpool at Anfield on October 11, three days before a home Champions League tie with Paris Saint-Germain.
