A comfortable night under the lights

Manchester City put five past AEK Athens at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday, a 5-1 win that settles a few nerves after last week's Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

Elliot Anderson opened the scoring 14 minutes in, and by the interval City had a 2-0 lead. The visitors, one of the consistently best sides in the Greek Super League, were never really in it after that.

Phil Foden set up Rayan Cherki for a brilliant goal to make it 3-1, and City pushed on from there.

It was a welcome result, coming as it did on the back of that loss to PSG. City, found guilty of breaking financial fair play rules, continue to refuse to lose in Premier League play. The win over AEK Athens was a reminder of the standards the club expects.

For the fans, a five-goal performance at home is never a bad way to spend a Tuesday evening.
