Blues move for experienced Argentine keeper
Manchester City have agreed a fee with Olympique Marseille for Argentine goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli, with the 34-year-old set to become the club's new backup between the sticks.
The move comes as a direct response to James Trafford's departure. The young Englishman has left the Etihad to take up the number one shirt at Leeds United, leaving Enzo Maresca's squad a little light in the goalkeeping department.
According to Fabrizio Romano, City and Marseille have shaken hands on a deal that will see Rulli provide cover for Gianluigi Donnarumma. It is a familiar role for the former Real Sociedad man, who knows exactly what will be asked of him at this stage of his career.
Romano reports that Rulli has been cleared to fly to Manchester to undergo his medical with the FA Cup and Carabao Cup holders. Barring any late hitches, confirmation of his arrival is expected in the coming days.
The contract is understood to run until 2028, with an option to extend by a further year through to 2029. At 34, Rulli brings plenty of experience to a position where City needed a reliable presence in reserve.
It is not the flashiest of signings, but it is a sensible one. Trafford's exit left a hole, and Rulli looks set to fill it.
