Manchester City are understood to be in advanced discussions with AC Milan regarding a potential summer transfer for Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders, according to reports from Italy.
Sky Sport Italia's Milan correspondent Peppe Di Stefano has indicated that negotiations between the two clubs have progressed significantly, with the transfer talks described as being at a "sophisticated juncture."
Speaking via PianetaMilan, Di Stefano explained: "Our coverage over recent days has highlighted Milan's potential need to offload a marquee player following the conclusion of the current campaign, with Tijjani Reijnders emerging as the primary candidate. Discussions with Manchester City have reached a mature phase."
The 25-year-old Dutch international has enjoyed a remarkable campaign at San Siro, registering 15 goals and contributing five assists across 53 appearances in all competitions. This impressive statistical output has reportedly caught the attention of Europe's elite clubs, with Real Madrid also believed to be monitoring his situation.
City's interest in Reijnders is not entirely new, with the Premier League champions having made preliminary enquiries during the January transfer window earlier this year.
Milan's failure to secure European qualification for the 2025-26 season has led to speculation that the Serie A giants may need to generate funds through player sales, though this narrative has been disputed by the club's hierarchy.
The timing could prove advantageous for City, who will benefit from an additional transfer window opening in early June due to their participation in the expanded Club World Cup tournament.
Despite the ongoing speculation, Reijnders recently committed his long-term future to Milan by signing a contract extension that runs until 2030. Furthermore, Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani has publicly stated that the club is under no immediate financial pressure to sell key assets, despite their European absence.
The Dutch midfielder's versatility and goal threat from midfield positions have made him an attractive proposition for Pep Guardiola's side, who continue to seek quality additions to their squad ahead of what promises to be another demanding campaign across multiple competitions.
