Manchester City have won the race for Leicester City teenager Jeremy Monga, with Fabrizio Romano confirming a deal is in place for the 16-year-old winger.

The transfer, worth a £10m package, comes after what Romano described as long talks with Arsenal that ultimately failed to produce a breakthrough for the Gunners.

Monga is regarded as one of the best young talents in the country and has already made 37 senior appearances for Leicester's first team, scoring once. The England youth international now looks set for the Etihad.

Maresca connection proved decisive

New City boss Enzo Maresca played a role in getting this one over the line. The former Leicester manager has a connection with Monga from his time at the King Power Stadium and was involved in presenting the long-term project to the player, according to Romano.

Arsenal had been chasing the youngster and even saw a bid rejected by Leicester, per the Times. But City have moved in and got their man.

There's plenty of competition for places at City, but the club have shown they're willing to give young players opportunities. Monga should fit into that picture before too long.
