A January approach for Khusanov?
Abdukodir Khusanov is the latest City player to attract transfer speculation, with Chelsea reportedly seeing the defender as a solution to their early-season defensive troubles.
According to The Daily Briefing, Chelsea view the 22-year-old as a 'great fit for their system'. The same report suggests Xabi Alonso could firm up interest with a formal offer as early as January, while Aston Villa, Everton and Bournemouth are also name-checked as possible suitors.
The interest from Chelsea stems from their woeful defensive form in the opening matches and first few weeks of the new campaign. For a side that has struggled at the back, Khusanov's profile appears to have caught the eye.
Khusanov moved to City from Lens in January 2025 and has since become a valued member of the squad. Under manager Enzo Maresca, he has started five matches this season at centre-back and on the right side of a back four.
"He's still developing, has to learn and we feel sure he can be one of the best centre backs in the world," said Director of Football Hugo Viana.
Viana's assessment offers a reminder of how highly the club rates the Uzbekistan international. Any club hoping to prise him away would be dealing with a City hierarchy that has clear plans for his future.
For now, the speculation remains just that. But with the January window on the horizon, Khusanov's name is one to watch.
