Bouaddi's Promise Backed by Early Signs
Ayyoub Bouaddi's first Manchester City appearance was a brief one, but the message from those who have watched him closely since is clear: this is a player being prepared for far more than cameo roles.
The 18-year-old Moroccan international arrived from Lille carrying a reputation as one of European football's most exciting midfield prospects. A standout World Cup with Morocco only reinforced that billing, and his late cameo in last Friday's 4-1 win at Crystal Palace offered a first glimpse in a City shirt.
It has been reported that Bouaddi is making an impression at City training and will have an important role to play for Enzo Maresca's side this season.
James Ducker of The Telegraph has detailed where the club see him fitting in, with the number six role identified as his natural home. Jeremy Cross of The Mirror adds that the teenager has made a huge impression in training sessions, with Maresca prepared to be patient given his age.
That patience, though, comes with expectation. The reports suggest Bouaddi will play more often than many might anticipate.
City did not part with £85 million to bring a teenager from Lille merely to warm the bench. The investment, and the early indications from the training ground, point towards a player who is expected to contribute meaningfully this season.
Bouaddi already possesses the technical quality, physical attributes and tactical awareness required to step into this midfield. His displays in Ligue 1 and on the World Cup stage suggest he is more than ready to establish himself as a genuine option for Maresca.
None of this should come as a shock. But it does serve as further confirmation of the calibre of talent City have secured. By the end of the 2026-27 campaign, it would be no surprise to look back and see Bouaddi firmly established as a key pillar of this team.
